The Velar does look great, better than the Lexus or Audi or BMW X5 or Acura MDX. No one told them the Evoque is about 42,000 bucks, or just a little more than a maxed-out Ford Fusion. Upper middle-class people buy Lexuses and Audis rich people buy Range Rovers, they would say. But, at least in the public’s eyes, the Range Rovers are a breed apart regarding what it says about your life. The Range Rover name does add about a $10K premium over the Audi and the Lexus in base form, and like I said, the premium SVAutobiography is a good bit more than that. The cargo area is just under 30 cubic feet, which is a little bigger than the Audi Q5 and smaller than the Lexus RX, the two leaders in the class. Both car seats fit, no problem, but I had to move the passenger seat way up to get it out of range of the littler kid’s feet. If that’s the size of vehicle you’re looking for, and don’t mind spending anywhere from $56K to this SVAutobiography’s $90K tag, you’re in luck, especially if you like meaty V8s, because that top trim is the only way to get Land Rover's glorious 5.0-liter in the Velar.Īnd what a mill it is. However, the price of the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Velar SUV in SVAutobiography guise with the V8 is a hefty $90,790, which is a bitter pill to swallow when aspects like unintuitive infotainment get in the way of complete enjoyment. The V8 is a stand-out choice here and makes the Velar feel like a true sports SUV, and doesn't have any negative consequences on the reliability of the SUV. Under the hood, all four engine choices have their merits, although the four-pot is slightly unrefined and the V6 lacks the potency its soundtrack suggests it might possess. Despite this, the Land Rover Range Rover Velar is a surprisingly effective tool: it is very spacious and awesomely luxurious on the inside, highly customizable (can someone say $9,000 paint jobs?) and is still a highly effective off-road tool. We're not saying the Velar is a lousy vehicle we're just saying that people are posers. The Range Rover Velar, in any configuration, is one of those cars that you buy because of the image rather than the capabilities of the car.
